The curing process dictates the longevity and look of your pool’s finish. Improper startup can lead to scale, staining, and severe plaster dust issues.

To ensure a flawless finish and protect your investment, follow this step-by-step guide to starting up your new plaster pool.

Step-by-step

01

Continuously Fill

As soon as the plaster process is complete, begin filling your pool with water immediately. Crucial Tip: Do not stop the water flow until the water level reaches the middle of the skimmer. Stopping the water prematurely can create a permanent "bathtub ring" or water line on your fresh plaster.

Add Startup Treat™

When the water level reaches 6 to 12 inches deep in the bowl, add 64 oz. (1/2 gallon) per 10,000 gallons of pool water directly into the deep end of the pool. Adding the product early allows the wetting agents to penetrate the fresh plaster immediately and the polymers to disperse dust as the water rises.

03

Brush the new plaster twice per day

Put those arm muscles to work! For the first two to three weeks, you need to brush the entire pool surface (walls, steps, benches, and floor) at least twice a day. This keeps any remaining plaster dust suspended in the water so your filtration system can remove it, leaving you with a smooth, pristine finish.

04

Continuously filter out plaster dust

Run your pool pump and filter continuously (24/7) for the first 72 hours. Because the plaster dust is being stirred up by your brushing, your filter will work overtime. Check the filter pressure regularly and clean the filter media as needed to ensure optimal water flow.

Balance in the first week

Test your pool water and slowly bring the Calcium Hardness, Alkalinity, and pH into balance in the first week. During the first month, your pH and Alkalinity will climb, and you will need to add acid to maintain balance.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT add salt or turn on the header for the first month.
